Queen Tiy

Mother of the King

When Amenhotep III succeeded his father to the throne he was still very young and unmarried. None of his brothers and sisters outlived their father.
In the second year of his reign he announced his marriage on several large commemorative scarabs:

“The Great Wife of the King is TIY...The name of her father is Yuya, the name of her mother is Thuyu. She is  the wife of a great king whose territory stretches from Karoy in Nubia to Naharin.”.
The position of the First Royal Wife is unassailable and her children outrank all others.
The senior prince was called "Eldest Son of the King" and is expected to inherit the throne.
“His majesty commanded the making of a lake for the great Queen Tiy in her home lands of Djarukha, its length being 3700 cubits and its breadth being 600 cubits. His majesty made a festival of the opening of the lake in the third month of the inundation season, day six, when his majesty sailed in the royal barge “The Sun Disc Dazzles”.
